AMD: When did you join the club?
SA: 1960 or 1961.
AMD: Why did you choose to join the club?
SA: Social reasons. being in banking it was good to join to socialize with our businessmen.
AMD: Tell me about the social aspect of the club?
SA: It was for business. Lunches and dinners – work related.
AMD: What was it like working with my grandfather?
SA: We were both on the same page, had similar ideas and thoughts about necessary changes for future membership.
AMD: Was there anything you disagreed on?
SA: No, we were on the same page.
AMD: What were some of the major chances you guys made to the Club?
SA: We made it clear that there were “good people” that should be members, and they were going to be voted in or else. We didn’t want to make a threat about it, but it was clear there were good people from different backgrounds that could add so much to the club. We said if they don’t start voting in “good people” regardless of race or religion, we would vote against ANYONE that is put up for membership. We had good friends (2 couples and a single man) who were turned down for membership 3 times, and Bill and I said that was going to change and we were voting them in. They were Greek and Jewish families. They were important business people in the community and should be members at the Club. There was also an African American family that had been turned down, and we made the decision that they would be voted in.
AMD: Do you see changes at the Club now?
SA: Haven’t been members for many years, since Bill passed away.
