This is a video of Blender's Suzanne with animating ears. This is vertex skinning happening on the GPU. Our md5 animations are 100% general at this point, so we can animate any md5 file you throw our way.
This video is of a particularly poorly modelled hand animating. It lets you see the vertex skinning a lot closer though, because the hand has so few polygons (a couple hundred).
The creepy stray pinky is purely artist error, Asteria is perfectly replicating the fruits of my inadequate animation skills.
