Yannis Ioannidis Joe Konstan

The 2022 Candidates for ACM President, Yannis Ioannidis and Joe Konstan, are attempting to set a new precedent for ACM elections. They are working together to solicit and answer questions from the computing community! While only ACM members can vote, you do not have to be an ACM member to suggest questions.

In addition to providing an official statement of their own to appear with the ACM election materials, they have agreed to answer a set of questions posed by community members. Questions were collected through a Google form and through a forum at OnlineQuestions.org (Event 202204).

The questions were collected/collated/edited by moderators, Jeanna Matthews, Nuria Oliver, and Moshe Vardi.

Remember to vote!

Voting ends May 23 at 16:00 UTC.

Process

Questions were collected both via a Google Form and through an OnlineQuestions event. They were collated/edited/combined by moderators Jeanna Matthews, Nuria Oliver and Moshe Vardi into 2 official rounds of questions. The questions were posted here when they were sent to the candidates, Yannis Ioannidis and Joe Konstan. The candidates prepared their answers independently and we posted them on an agreed upon date.
Voting began on April 18 and the first round of answers were posted on that day. A second round of answers was posted on May 9.
Voting ends May 23 (16:00 UTC).

Official Q/A is Closed

The candidates have answered 2 substantive rounds of moderated questions, producing over 50 pages of responses collectively.

Raw questions posted to the Google Form and OnlineQuestions event before May 9 are available. There were a few identifiable features (e.g. email addresses) and those have been removed. Approximately 70 questions were asked through the Google form. In OnlineQuestions, approximately 30 questions received over 1500 votes. If you have any comments about which questions were chosen, the way in which questions were edited or the moderation process more broadly, we welcome your input.
