I have given multiple talks & updates on what I have been working on for my personal servers. Which have included talks on:
I have helped teach multiple people things from/on C++ that they were having issues with. Additionaly I have taught my friends about what I have been working on and on concepts that they are interested in such as:
I have convinced multiple people to vist COSI and have shown/explained to them what we do.
I have also explained what COSI is and does to several tour groups which have passed by.
Jonathan helped me setup a NetScan instance on my personal servers so that Jonathan and David would be able to get updated NetScan results from an external scan, so that they would know what security issues COSI has either had fixed or still need to get fixed. Instead of being limited to only being able to use NetScan to find internal security issues.
I have started work on trying to get Obsidian to boot into a functional OS and so far have run into multiple issues just trying to install an OS onto it.
I have also somewhat started work on getting 3 servers which are designed to work together as a NAS to work again but have not quite gotten to the point to even try booting them yet.
I helped Cris & Sofia install the new HDDs for Mirror and install a new OS onto Mirror.
I had set up a ZFS array with a singular HDD in it and was unable to figure out how to add the SSD I had as a cache disk so I gave up on that and was just using it as a normal storage disk. But for some reason the array failed and everything I tried (and was suggested for my to try) do not work so I ended up losing all of my servers and their data. Which was essentialy just my router, DNS server, and the attempts at creating several new servers.
After I lost all of the data I had to reinstall ProxmoxVE and resetup my router and DNS server which I finaly got fully setup/working again, after a lot of issues with some miscofigured settings for my DNS settings in PfSense (the router). But I am experiencing some DHCP issues related to IP address lease assignment speed.
I am now running three servers that are running ProxmoxVE as their host OS. Currently only one of them has any tasks that are running due to me needing to finish setting up the private network and gettign the NAS fully operational.
I have made a virtual machine (VM) in one of my hypervisor servers (Proxmox) and have the VM running PfSense as the OS. I have passed though three ethernet ports to the VM from the hypervisor. One is the LAN port, the other two is for the WAN port and I made it so that the two ports should be agregated so that I get a higher total badwith for my internet connection.
I am currently running a NAS that has TrueNAS Scale as its OS and have been spending a lot of time working on getting it and 10 gigibit networking set up. But due to the case that the system was in, being a Gateway desktop from E-Waste the drives where having issues staying cool enough. Which is why I have also completly swapped the cases that my servers were in. So that the drives in the NAS would be able to be mounted properly.
I have also been working on finguring out how to expand the RAID-Z1 pool I have and what is causing a drive that I pulled from my desktop to be throwing S.M.A.R.T. errors. When I run the long check on it.
I run a DNS server which will automaticly block advertisments on the domain level due to it being PiHole. It is finaly working somewhat properly due to figuring out the correct settings for my router to have. The current issue is that the only trafic that it sees appeers to be from the router instead of the individual systems which limits what I can do for domain blocking.
I have made a minecraft server with bungeecord but it no longer exists due to the data loss and due to me setting it up in a very insecure manner which I did not maintain.
I have plans to remake it in a secure manner and also make servers for other games too.
I started to set up a load balancer for my servers so that I could forward people connecting to my router to my diffrent servers based on the domain that they used. Which I ended up taking a break from due to not having a domain which allowed me to use SRV reccords.
I started teaching myself about certificates and the options to go about making one. I started trying two diffrent options which were SmallStep/StepCA and OpenSSL but I did not finish figuring out how to make my own selfhosted certificate authority before getting side tracked and my test VMs lost.
I currently have plans to set up the following servers:
I had Ember help teach me how to see what information a usb device is sending to the computer and how to get started on writing a driver for something. I started figuring out the Windows API for steering wheels with force feedback, but got distracted by other projects of mine. As a result this project is currently on hold.
Due to me wanting to run my own BeamNG MP server and do some very weird things with Domains and connecting to the server. The other Graham advised me that the thing I should take a look at due to it being the most likly option to allow me to do what I wanted was SRV reccords. I asked on the Github page for the software if it supported SRV reccords. Due to their responce, I will help them figure out and implement SRV reccords into the software, once I get my servers fully operational again.
I asked the wall director if they would cosider using a website that was made by me and their responce made it seem that it would not be used.
