Hi, I'm Peter Vaillancourt.
Bio
I am a senior Applied Mathematics and Physics double major at Clarkson
University that will be graduating in December 2014. I am interested in
pursuing a PhD in Computational Astrophysics.
MP451
I am taking 1 credit of MP451 this semester, most of which involves working in
the Clarkson Open Source Institute (COSI).
Here is a summary of my regular activities around the labs:
- Giving long Lightning Talks
- Presenting useful workshops on LaTeX including:
- - LaTeX
Basics: Covered all the initial components necessary to write a
LaTeX document. This includes installation of texlive, different
editors such as Kile and Texmaker, documentclasses, sections,
formatting, geometry of the document, importing packages, mathmode,
and more.
- - Resumes:
An in-depth explanation of the setup and code for a standard resume in
LaTeX was covered. Specific examples of code are available and will
be updated if improved. The purpose and style of resume were also
discussed. The Curriculum Vitae (CV) was also briefly discussed.
- - Final Projects: The focus was on the details and accoutrements of a LaTeX
document produced as a final project for a class. Tables, figures, more
explicit mathmode examples, the tabular environment, redefining environments,
renewing and creating commands, and the tikz package were explored. Several
finished products were displayed and used as learning tools. Templates will
soon be linked here.
- Reverse engineering the current print server
- Setting up and configuring the print development
server
- Maintaining the docs
and bugging people to update their pages.
