Director

This semester Pat Wilbur and I were knighted into the eternal brotherhood of COSI Directors.

Some items of importance that I have occured this semester include:

  • Setting up and managing the BladeCenter and individual blades for project usage.
  • Dealing with the EXP400 Storage Expansion units.
  • Learning how to be a good director from Jeremy Bongio and Rouslan Solomakhin.

Web Services

While the lab's servers were being reconfigured, I had to move all of COSI's website over to a new Xen image.

At first, Cyrus wanted to put move everything over to the Xen image except the MySQL databases. He wanted to put them on another machine and use NFS to mount them on the new COSI image. That didn't work out to well because of some file locking issues.

While moving only the MySQL databases off of righteous (our old web server that will now be used to DNS/DHCP), and updating the databases to work with MySQL 5, they became corrupt. Fortunately, I have daily backups of our databases, which I ultimately ended up using.

Lab Build

Being the constant COSI lab build maintainer, something is always happening with it.

Since there was no major release of Fedora Core (our distribution of choice), nothing major happened with it. But, like always there were just some small changes to it such as the usualy sotware package installations and file changes. One of the most important changes is that we had to add support, again, for the cluster in the ITL and COSI.

Other

Jacob Torrey and I started learning how to use Dvorak Simplified Keyboard layout.

Several of us also aided in making networking cables for COSI and the ITL. This was the first time I had to make these cables and I hope I don't need to do it again anytime soon... A good learning experience, but very boring and tedious. OW O GW Bl BlW G BrW Br
