Lately I have been going to the Z/VM GUI team meetings on Sundays and helping with the planning for all the parts we will need for the GUI. On my own I have been researching the language settings for the Z to find a way to change the language to English so that our GUI client can interact with the Z if it is expecting commands in another language.
Tue, 30 Mar 2004 Joining Z/VM GUI team #
Jason said that he was looking for more help for his team and since I wasn't doing much for the cluster team I decided to join Jason's team. We met on Sunday from 11-3. Jason and the rest of the team gave me an over view of what the team has done and what they are planning to do. After that we looked at the Zserver software object diagram and continued planning what methods we would be using in each object and how they will interact.
[Tue, 30 Mar 2004] | [COSI] Wed, 25 Feb 2004 Starting WebCT intro MPI course #
I started the WebCT course today and finished chapter 1. It was just an intro to message passing and parallel processing. It's interesting because a lot of the problems that you have to deal with in operating systems such as maintaining data integrity and bottlenecks due to communication between different parts of the computer are the same problems that occur in cluster computing. It looks like there are even some programming exercises later in the course. It will be interesting to see how they are implemented since I don't have access to a cluster or any cluster software.

I've been searching for some free self-paced online courses to get an introduction to MPI. I haven't had a lot of time to start going through the courses because of my other classes but next week and over break I plan on getting a lot more done. Here are some links that I've been using.
