My Current COSI Status
November 2007
I have completed documentation for submitting and running jobs on the
cluster, now if only the darn thing would work! I am working on
automation scripts for detecting which nodes are available for use and
for copying executables to each node.
I have made a presentation on CVS, writing open source code (and
patches), and submitting patches to projects people are interested in.
I attended the second open house this semester. I helped with the math
department, but talked with people about the labs and how it could
benefit them no matter what major they are. I showed some people
around the labs, but most had already taken a brief tour.
October 2007
I have begun work on the honey pot and the cluster. I've ran a small
program on two nodes on the cluster but there are some errors that
occur when trying to run a more substantial program. We are looking
into those, but in the mean time I've started filling in details on
how the cluster works and how to run programs on it to the wiki.
I have also started fooling around with the honey pot files. Jim gave
me some starting points, such as running 'file' and 'strings' on the
files since it is pretty is easy to change the extension on a file to
try to fool people. The strings command could give a unique string
that lets you do a google search to easily figure out what they are
doing.
I have also done some work around the lab. I helped Pat label all the
ethernet connections, so now we know where everything is going in the
server room.
September 2007
I have found two projects that I am interested in: cluster and honey
pot. I've approached Dr. Hesse about what needs to be done on the
cluster and am currently waiting for a list of tasks (or something
similar).
