This semester I took over the maintenance of
mirror.clarkson.edu from
Jacob Torrey. I've had to overhaul some things, mainly make sense of the rsync scripts and learn how they work on the server. I also fixed the scripts so that no more than one instance of a particular rsync can be going on at once. In addition I worked with
Zach Shepherd on allocating more storage to the domain, in addition to monitoring the rsync progress. I have also started to try and make sense of the ProFTPD configuration file. Right now you cannot directly FTP to the different distros directories, hopefully I can fix that before I graduate next semester (maybe). I have also started working on a "frontpage" to mirror. I modeled it after Ibiblio.org's page. Additionally, I have actually turned on the Rsync server for Mirror so other people can mirror from us using Rsync if they want to. Lastly I have started to document Mirror on
docs.cosi.clarkson.edu.
Not really a big thing, but this semester with the acquisition of a Macbook, I have finally gotten a chance to use the one major OS that I don't have a lot of experience with, Apple's Mac OS X. Just in time for the latest version, 10.5 "Leopard". It took some time to get used to, but I am actually enjoying it now. You can read more of my impressions at
AzureDreams. I have also been playing around with scripting OS X and wound up creating a small Dashboard Widget for reading the Planet COSI RSS feed. I emailed it out to the COSI mailing list for the few of us who use OS X to try out
Once again I took to the mainframe in IBM's Master The Mainframe Competition. Unlike the previous two years, I failed to make it through Phase Two. This was due to a combination of sketchy internet connections and an above average workload.
