My Current COSI Status

November 2006

My code submissions have been accepted and incorporated into the newest release. They are asking for my input on how to modify the current structure to detect different environments better. This will make the program more efficient in listing the autocomplete items, which has grown considerably since I started working on them.

I have begun making changes to the code. I use this plugin for typing a variety of mathematical papers. Mainly, I have been changing definitions and autocomplete features to be more accurate or include more. Hopefully I will have the code posted on this site before midterm time and uploaded to the gnome CVS. I have also created a gnome wiki page as I am now officially developing for one of their projects.

I have received an email welcoming me to help work on the latex plugin. I have the option of helping update the database of terms which are used in the autocomplete. I think I will add things as I need them, or think of them, but the cool thing is that they mentioned updated the bug that I just posted. I think I will definitely approach this now.

I have played around with the plugin and found some bugs which I submitted. Some of these seem like they would be reasonable to fix, so I might try my hand at them to see if I can not only find the bugs, but contribute towards fixing them! I also attended open house today, but didn't last in COSI too long. The math dept. was lacking in student helpers, so I talked in general with prospective math majors. Most seemed interested in Comp. Sci. as well, so I was able to add my perspective on both sides of the fence.

Surprise, surprise, the infamous gedit latex plugin really exists! I have examined the source code for it, and it uses the same ideas as what I was using last semester. I will contact the project leader immediately to see what he needs done (the source code contains comments for tasks that should be done).

Before 10/06/06

I have been reading about Xen (see the links on the projects page), and I am interesting in getting started using it. I have been following the cluster project, but the my old job has been filled (making the front-end) because I am not great at making things user-friendly. I will soon be looking at the queueing system that Cyrus has started and begin working on that. Also, I will look into what is going on with the grid computing project. That should probably be saved until the cluster is fully functional because professors are already interested in the cluster.
