To copy a DASD, you must: Attach the source and destination DASDs to the user: ATTACH source-device-number * ATTACH destination-device-number * (Note: DASD device-number ATTACHED TO ... is the line we want, if we get some other type like TAPE or RDR then we know something went wrong and we specified the wrong device-number We could also get one of the HCP return codes, all of which indicate failure.) Issue DDR which needs control statements like the following: INPUT source-device-number type OUTPUT destination-device-number type (Note: type is 3390 on all of our DASD) COPY yes #to read volume all #to cylinders yes #to write volume (Note: Should receive an END OF COPY message on success, or an HCP error message on failure) Use CPFMTXA to change the volume label on one. LABEL device-number new-label CPFMTXA calls ICKDSF so we could use it instead: console console CPVOL LABEL UNIT(device-number) VOLID(new-label) NOVFY u end (We want to look for this: ICK00001I FUNCTION COMPLETED, HIGHEST CONDITION CODE WAS 0 still looking for documentation to see what else we could get and if the ICK00001I changes, or just the condition code) Detach both packs from user. DETACH source-device-number DETACH destination-device-number
