One of the duties of the Web Services team is to maintain two Solaris boxes that run various applications for the Cosi community. It was decided that the needs for these machines were best served by utilizing a Linux distribution. As with standard Cosi protocol, Gentoo was chosen.
It was my responsibility to research the installation process and requirements for Gentoo on a SPARC Solaris environment. With the assistance of the documents I retrieved, the installations were successful and relatively simple.
One of the central responsibilities of the Web Services team is the maintenance of the Cosi website. This semester, the ambitious process of renovating this site started. The old site was considered boring, in some cases complex, and some went as far as calling it ugly. However, despite its poor presentation, the information on the site was sound. So, for the sake of efficiency, this old information needed to be gathered and saved such that it could be placed on the new site.
The sections and/or topics of the site were divided up and assigned to the various members of the Web Services team. I was given the task of searching out and gathering any and all info related to Linux in general and the mirror that we maintain. This information has been saved in a simple format and will later be found on the new site.
Another department within Clarkson wanted to make a poster or some sort of display to be used at an Open House. They called on the Cosi Public Relations team to gather images that show the computer science / software engineering field in a fun and positive light. We gladly accepted.
After scrounging around the web, hitting mostly hiring sections of industry leading companies, I was able to locate several useful images. Our quick action and ideal results continued to show Clarkson that Cosi has many services to offer.
